Chicken Fried Steak and Mashed Potatoes!

I made Chicken Fried Steaks the other night for dinner and it turned out fairly well. I have never made chicken fried steaks and, in fact, I'm not certain I have ever eaten them before. The recipe is easy but I would change it so there is less chaos while cooking. I'll let you know what to do when it gets to that point.

Here are the ingredients you will need:

  • 1 gallon cooking oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons beef seasoning
  • 8 (6 ounce) beef cutlets, tenderized at room temperature
Directions:
  •  Fill fryer with oil and heat to 375 degrees F [this will take 15 to 20 minutes]
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour and beef seasoning
  • Dip the first 4 cutlets into the egg mixture, one at a time, dredge them in the flour, then dip them back int the egg mixture AND then redredge them in the flour
  • Then very gently place them in the hot oil
  • Cook 1 minute per side, depending on the thickness of meat
  • Fry until the breading is a golden brown color
It's fairly easy to make. However, I would make sure that you dredge the steak in flour as the last step. The recipe requires you to dip the steaks in the egg as the last step, but it is a mess and does'n't adhere to the steak properly. Trust me!!

I paired this with simple mashed potatoes [potatoes, heavy cream, butter, salt and pepper] and creamy gravy [I used McCormick's Country Gravy Mix, but there are wonderful recipes for making the gravy from scratch, which I would recommend! I was just too lazy to make it myself!!]

Until next time, Happy Fryin'!
