Tzatziki Sauce

Good Morning Foodies! I’m trying my best to fit everything into my day today. First the blog post, then reading in the sun by the pool for a bit, then handling some tasks for a couple of clients this afternoon. Oh and I have to worry about Sophie, the hellion pup-tart that seems to push my buttons at every turn {i.e. going to the bathroom under the living room end table mere minutes after having her outside to do her business}.

I find her entirely inappropriate at times.

Today I have a great meatless dish for you, which premises the next couple of recipes I have this week. Today I have for you a recipe for Tzatziki Sauce. It’s a Greek/Mediterranean thing that I just happen to love. Back when I was getting my Master’s Degree and living in Pittsburgh, I did not cook. In fact, I snacked a lot of the time on things I should not snack on or eating out at restaurants like McDonald’s or Chipotle every chance I had.

I wasted a ton of money, which I wish I could have back.

Anyway, Nick was visiting me one time and I thought I would attempt to make dinner in my “quant” little apartment kitchen. I use the word quant very loosely. I don’t want to come out and say my kitchen sucked, but it did.

Anyway, that is neither here nor there. In one of those infant attempts to cook a delicious dinner for my beau and I, I thought gyros would be an easy first recipe.

And, it was. However, I had to make Tzatziki sauce for the first time. For the life of me I cannot find that recipe. It was incredible!

Though I think it may be difficult to mess up a recipe like this one. It is a very simple recipe, with very simple ingredients but they all come together to create a great sauce! Take a look.

Recipe Adapted from Kayln's Kitchen

  • 1 ½ cups Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 garlic cloves, pressed
  • 1 medium cucumber, seeded and diced {I didn’t seed mine – unintentionally – but it came out fantastic!}
  • ½ tablespoon salt
  • ½ tablespoon pepper
  • ½ tablespoon fresh dill, chopped {optional}


  • Cut the cucumber in half lengthwise
  • Remove the seeds and rough chop the cucumber
  • Add the salt, pepper, lemon juice and cucumber to a  food processor
  • Process until blended, with chunks of cucumber
  • Add additional salt and pepper according to your taste
  • Refrigerate for about an hour
  • Serve with lamb, chicken, beef, or salad! And don’t forget the feta!!
